Welcome to The Seasoned Cabin!

WHO I AM: I’m a 56-year-old woman who sold my dream home at 54 to live in a ski-in cabin with my husband of 30+ years. Our two sons are grown and launched. I’m a food photographer, a reader of hard books, and someone who’s learning how to make this season of life the richest one yet.

WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG: After we moved to the cabin, I realized my sons weren’t coming back to Oregon after college. It threw me. Who was I apart from being a mom? So I started to reimagine my life. I asked myself, “Who am I going to be in this next chapter?” This blog is a documentation of starting anew in midlife.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT: Most cabin/homestead content is created by people in their 20s-30s or hardcore off-gridders. I’m neither. I’m a middle-aged woman with a dishwasher AND a woodstove. I stream Netflix AND split firewood. I want a simpler, more seasonal life…hybrid living. This is my real life.

WHO THIS IS FOR:

  • Anyone in their 50s (or beyond) wondering if it’s too late to change
  • Empty nesters asking “who am I now?”
  • People who want intentional living without extremes
  • Those seeking seasonal rhythms and intentional rest
  • Anyone navigating aging parents, grown kids, and midlife identity
  • People who want to see someone learning in real time (not just showing polished results)
